  8.  This document covers IMPORTANT material NOT contained in the user's guide.
  9.  Please read ALL of this information carefully! SEE THE NEW FEATURES section
  10.  for new features that are NOT covered in the help or documentation.

  12.  Version 5.2 Notes
  13.  -----------------
  14.  Version 5.2 is a maintainence release.  It fixes the few known bugs in 
  15.  the previous release.  Primarily the Macros bug, and a few obscure file
  16.  handling errors.  This will be the last release until Windows 95 ships
  17.  sometime the first half of 1995.  Look for an entirely new and more 
  18.  powerful version of Zip Manager for Windows 95!

  21.  Important Installation Directions
  22.  --------------------------------- 
  23.  The Zip Manager program files are in compressed format, each file ends
  24.  with an _ character.  You must run the ZMSETUP program to expand them
  25.  before the program can be used. You must run ZMSETUP.EXE from the Windows
  26.  Program Manager.  Other shells like the Norton Desktop or PC Tools for
  27.  Windows are not 100% compatible with our setup program and may cause it to
  28.  fail when attempting to create the Zip Manager Group.

  30.  Running The ZMSETUP Program
  31.  ----------------------------
  32.  1. From the Program Manager File Menu choose Run...
  33.  2. Enter the location of the ZMSETUP Program. If the files were on your
  34.     A: drive then you would enter: A:\ZMSETUP and press Enter or Click on
  35.     the OK button.
  36.  3. The Zip Manager setup dialog will be displayed.
  37.  4. The edit field will display a suggested directory.
  38.  5. Press OK to accept the default directory or enter new destination
  39.     directory and press Enter or Click on the OK button.
  40.  6. The setup program will create the directory for you and display
  41.     the file installation progress.
  42.  7. When it has finished expanding and copying the files it will create
  43.     a new Program Manager Group and add the program files to the group.
  44.     Now you can proceed with the next step.
  45.  
  46.  To Complete The Installation
  47.  ----------------------------
  48.  After the installation program is finished you MUST read the installation
  49.  section of the Users' Guide.  You will see its icon in the Zip Manager
  50.  group. You must setup the program's default directories, and configure
  51.  the program to work with your Virus Detection software.
  52.

  54.                     Important Information - Please Read These!
  55.  **************************************************************************
  56.  
  57.  VERY IMPORTANT -> Please Note The Following:
  58.  ---------------------------------------------
  59.  THIS APPLIES TO DOS PKZIP USERS ONLY
  60.  Do NOT put the Zip Manager program files deep in a directory tree. Doing
  61.  so may make it impossible for Zip Manager to work with the DOS programs,
  62.  ARJ and PKZIP.  We suggest that you install Zip Manager in its own directory
  63.  off of the root directory.  c:\zipmgr, would be a good example.  ZMZIP and 
  64.  ZMUNZIP allow Zip Manager to compress and extract files in very deep 
  65.  directory trees.  However DOS programs are limited to 128 characters
  66.  at the VERY MOST for command line arguments.
  67.  
  68.  VERY IMPORTANT -> Please Note The Following:
  69.  ---------------------------------------------
  70.  Zip Manager creates its own temporary directory called zm5temp which it
  71.  uses to extract and store files. DO NOT use this directory, since all of
  72.  the files in it are deleted when Zip Manager ends.  We wanted to be sure
  73.  that you didn't set this as one of your default directories.
  74.  If you did all of your files would be gone when Zip Manager closed!
  75.  There was a bit of confusion about the usage of this directory and we
  76.  wanted to make sure  that you didn't lose any files accidently.
  77.  
  78.  VERY IMPORTANT -> Please Note The Following:
  79.  ---------------------------------------------
  80.  **** WARNING YOUR DATA MAY BE IN DANGER ****
  81.  Never add 2.04 format files to any Zip file created with the PKZIP
  82.  Version 1.10.  This is the old zip file format, and if you add a file
  83.  to a version 1.10 zip with either PKZIP 2.04g or Zip Manager you will
  84.  CORRUPT the Zip file and all other files in it will be unrecoverable.
  85.  We have had a few users report this unfortunate problem and we wanted
  86.  to make you aware of it again for your safety.  Zip Manager has an
  87.  easy to use convert option on the edit menu.  If you are NOT SURE
  88.  if a file was created with pkzip 1.10 or 2.04, then don't take a
  89.  chance!  Convert it to 2.04 format to be safe!
  90.  
  91.  This potential problem with backward compatibility was never
  92.  documented clearly with any other archive program.  We want your
  93.  data to be secure, so we felt it was worth re-documenting it here
  94.  for extra saftey.
  95.  
  96.  VERY IMPORTANT -> Please Note The Following:
  97.  ---------------------------------------------
  98.  If you have the recurse directories switch checked
  99.  and then select the root of your hard disk, Zip Mgr
  100.  will try to recurse and archive your entire drive!
  101.  There may be some instance where you would need to do
  102.  this but just be aware that you will also need to have
  103.  multiple volume switch set and have the target drive
  104.  as either A: or B:
  105.  
  106.  Important Note On Converting Files!
  107.  -----------------------------------
  108.  DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CONVERT MORE THAN ONE FILE AT A TIME. When converting
  109.  a file from ZIP to ARJ or ARC to ZIP for example, you would force the
  110.  conversion process to open up more than one copy of PKZIP.  This can
  111.  easily RESULT IN SEVERE DATA LOSS.  The Zip Manager was designed to convert
  112.  only one file at time, so please be careful.
  113.  
  114.  MAPI.DLL Error Message Warning                 
  115.  ------------------------------
  116.  If you don't have an E-Mail program, or one that uses the Microsoft Mail 
  117.  API then the FIRST TIME Zip Manager starts you MAY get a message box that
  118.  says, "Error Can't Find MAPI.DLL"  TO DIABLE THIS ERROR MESSAGE:
  119.  
  120.  1. Start the windows Notepad program.
  121.  2. Type the following: NO MAIL
  122.  3. Choose Save from the File Menu.
  123.  4. Save the file in your Windows/System Directory with the name MAPI.DLL
  124.  5. Now when Zip Manager starts it will see this file and disable the
  125.    mail items on the menu and you will no longer get the error message.

  127.  Maintenance Releases and Upgrades
  128.  ----------------------------------
  129.  All maintenance and minor version upgrades will be available ONLY on our
  130.  BBS. Since these releases will contain only the upgraded files it will
  131.  save you download time and keep the files on our board where they won't
  132.  inadvertently be downloaded as the complete program.

  135.                   New Features In Version 5.1
  136.  ===============================================================
  137.  
  138.  Full Network Support Now Standard
  139.  ---------------------------------
  140.  Since so many users have small networks we decided to make
  141.  network support standard in the shareware release of Zip Mgr.
  142.  It frees us from having to have a seperate disk and gives the
  143.  user the freedom to evaluate every feature of the program.  We
  144.  have added more robust support for file locking and error
  145.  trapping in version 5.1
  146.  
  147.  Full Use Of The Registration Database
  148.  ----------------------------------------------
  149.  In order to allow for multiple configurations and in keeping
  150.  with the Win32 API, Zip Manager now makes full use of the
  151.  registration database.
  152.  
  153.  Don't Forget The "Easy Check Out Feature"
  154.  -----------------------------------------
  155.  Since Zip Manager can create a new group for you right frrom the menu
  156.  or allow you to drag a program directly from an archive and drop it
  157.  on any program manager group to add it to that group.  All of these
  158.  features make it very easy to "Check Out" a new program with a minimum
  159.  of effort.  Also remember that all you have to do to "run" a program is
  160.  double click on it in any Zip or Arj file.
  161.  
  162.  FULL PKZIP Multiple Volume Support
  163.  ----------------------------------
  164.  Zip Manager now fully supports creating and extracting ALL or 
  165.  SELECTED files from a multiple volume Zip. Due to the way
  166.  that a multiple volume zip is created you MUST place the LAST
  167.  disk in the series in your floppy drive.  The last disk is the
  168.  ONLY one that contains the needed information about all of the
  169.  files contained in the zip file.  Once the files are selected
  170.  pkunzip will prompt you to put in the correct disk number.

  172.  Self Extracting Archive Support
  173.  -------------------------------
  174.  Zip Manager now fully supports self extracting EXE files as normal archive
  175.  files.  You double click on them to open them into the archive pane as you
  176.  would any other Zip or Arj file.  You can then perform any option available
  177.  to archive files on them.
  178.  
  179.  File Re-Naming Support On Extraction
  180.  -----------------------------------
  181.  If Zip Manager encounters a file with the same name when extracting a zip
  182.  file it gives you the option of entering a new file name. Only Zip Manager
  183.  and ARJ offer users this convenient option!

  185.  Directory Creation On Extraction
  186.  --------------------------------
  187.  Many users asked for this feature so that they could have a new directory
  188.  created if they wanted to when the Zip file was extracted. Zip Manager
  189.  can even create a multiple level directory.  If for example you entered:
  190.  c:\test1\test2\test3  Zip Manager would create that directory structure
  191.  and extract the files into the test3 sub directory!
  192.  
  193.  Drag and Drop Server
  194.  --------------------
  195.  Version 5 is now a Drag and Drop server, which means that you can drag
  196.  files from Zip Manager and drop them on any program or other file manager
  197.  for Windows to copy, move, or even add them to a program manager group.
  198.  This functionality applies to files in archives and normal files shown
  199.  in the directory pane.

  201.  . Dot and .. Double Dot Support
  202.  --------------------------------
  203.  This release supports the . and .. as target directories when creating
  204.  or extracting files.  You can enter a . or a .. in the target directory
  205.  combo box instead of typing in the full directory name.

  207.  Virus Detection Programs
  208.  ------------------------
  209.  Note:  In order for your virus detection program to work with Zip Manager
  210.  it MUST be able to accept command line arguments. Read the users guide
  211.  installation section for instructions on how to determine if your program
  212.  will work with Zip Manager.
  213.  
  214.  Possible Parameter Combinations For Virus Detection programs.

  216.  In the Zip Manager Setup Dialog Enter the following after the program
  217.  location name and directory.
  218.  
  219.  For Example, X:\UTILITIES\NAVW.EXE /auto *.* /S would be the correct
  220.  command for the Norton Anti Virus for Windows Program.
  221.  
  222.  Listed below are the (sometimes) correct switch parameters for most popular
  223.  virus detection programs. You will most likely still need to experiment a
  224.  little to get some of them to work.  We use and recommend SCAN.EXE from
  225.  McAfee and Associates.
